Here we go!

It probably seems a little ludicrous when I say 'there's no going back now' - we have been at that point for a while already, what with the huge holes in the wall to get the vermiculite out.

But tomorrow it is ALL coming down, including the radiators, and we are both excited and a little nervous.

The keg is on ice, the food is ready to be assembled by my mama, the sink is out (and we discovered that it is CAST IRON, not ceramic, as we previously thought. HEAVY! But also perhaps worth more?), the Hooligan has clean towels for dusty faces, soap, extra TP, and even a tarp-door.

We waffle between thinking the house will be stripped before lunch and wondering how much we will still have to do on Sunday. Around 25 people are coming to help and we have a whole keg of beer and TONS of food, so I think they will stick around till the job is done. Hopefully.

So now, on to some pictures:
Last meal cooked on the old stove! An improved version of Stella's Mexican Breakfast, for you Winnipeg folk.

Henry John came by with some door samples and the next round of cherry treatment. As he said, 'You need something nice to look at while dealing with all of this', and boy did he deliver. He left the mock-ups with us, and we plan to put them up like art beside the computer to give us a goal to look forward to.
The new sink! Isn't that classy?! It was a bit of a head-scratcher about how to get the fixture off and then we had our fingers seriously crossed that we could get it back on, but voila! No problems! The drain is also still in tact below the sink, so rigging up a temporary (less temporary than this) sink should not be a big deal. HUGE relief for me - living with out water at your finger-tips is a whole other level of roughing it.
I bet you didn't think our kitchen could get more compact! But it CAN! It's all ready to be tarped off tomorrow so it doesn't get full of bash-n-crash mess. Lovely.

Tomorrow we'll get up at 7 ish, and go from there. There are a few last-minute details to take care of, but really, we are ready for the wrecking crew.

It is a little strange that tomorrow the house will be as 'undone' as it will ever get. From here on out, we will be putting it back together, rather than taking it apart. I can't tell you how exciting that feels. Also daunting. And overwhelming. But mostly exciting.

After tomorrow, the next step is to figure out what next. And to make ourselves a new calendar, not on the wall.

Wish us luck! If you want to stop by, please do! Even just to take in the spectacle. No beer until you haul at least one bucket of plaster, though ;)
