Have patience, have patience, don't be in such a hurry!

There are four fans (5 if you count the ceiling fan, but it's pretty silent) in my house that have been running 24 hours a day since Sunday, and they will continue to do so for another week. This is what it takes to dry drywall mud during a Manitoba summer with the humidity and all. It is loud in here. It's like a constant ringing in your ears. I ask Jake to repeat pretty much everything he says. I feel like my ears are plugged with water, the noise is so constant and unrelenting.

Here is the thing about this stage. Actually, there are several things.

1. It is dirty. There is mud and dust everywhere. I'm tempted to give the floors a good washing, but they are just going to get dirty again tomorrow. On the other hand, having to put on your shoes to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night is a little bit ridiculous. I may be driven to do it on Friday. We'll see.

2. There is no rushing it. In every other part of the renovation, it was all about how hard you wanted to work. The harder and more we worked, the faster the progress was. Simple. Easy-peasy. We worked long hard days and the lists got shorter. That's how it should be! But not for drywall mud! It just makes you wait. And if you do get impatient, you will be looking at the imperfections caused by mud shrinking and taking the paint with it for your entire life. So we wait. The plan right now is the guy is going to sand it (he only sands once! Smart!) on Tuesday. Then we can clean up the mess and start priming. And man are we excited for THAT!

3. Surprisingly, the house looks smaller! Doesn't make any sense, really, but there it is. Hopefully once the walls are painted it will look bigger again.

4. HJ is going to start bringing over the lower boxes either later today or tomorrow! Kitchen install begins! I didn't think we could start till the mudding was done, but we can! And we will! SOOOO exciting! Except the kitchen is going to get very small, very fast. Oh well, what are you gonna do?

5. Mostly Jake and I have only freaked out one at a time, although yesterday we both went a little squirrelly over different things. It was not our best day. We did make some lists, though, and the wedding list is hella long. We are starting to tackle it with the same doggedness we used on the renovation list. We're going to start asking for help, people! Hope you're ok with that!

And now, to the basement to pull nails out of floor boards. Fun times!
