SOLUTIONS!

You know, sometimes the research does pay off! It's pretty amazing, actually.

We were, as I wrote, initially discouraged by the lack of choice in the fridge we wanted - the two brands we thought made 30" french door fridges, Samsung and GE, did not get great reviews online. Especially GE. People hate that brand!

So yesterday we went to one more store, Midland Appliances, where the sales guy told us that KitchenAid, Whirlpool, and Maytag are all coming out with 30" French door fridges in the next few months. Success! So now we know! By getting a smaller fridge and changing up the pantry on the end, we can gain an extra FOOT of counter/cupboard space. Isn't that incredible? I'll answer for you: YES IT IS.

ALSO: Jake has been set on a gas stove since he ever first started dreaming about renovating his house but more than one person has told us now to consider induction. It transfers heat through the glass top with magnets, is hella fast to heat and cool, and super-efficient. Also, because the glass doesn't get super-hot, stuff doesn't burn onto it when you spill it. Awesome, right? AND you don't need a gas fitter to install it. Only problem? Only a fraction of our cooking wear will work on it: 2 enameled cast iron pots, 2 cast iron pans, and two stainless steel pans. Everything else would have to go. On the other hand, with the money we save on the gas fitter, we could get new pots!

Does anyone out there have advice or tips re: appliances? We are also getting a dishwasher (obviously) and probably also a hood fan (not including microwave).

A Sibling for Rudi?

There's no delicate way to start this, so I'm just going to jump right in. We are looking for someone who is interested in being a gestational carrier to help us add one more baby to complete our family. Yes, that's right - I'm writing a blog post and putting it out into the world in the hopes that someone will email me or message me saying they would be excited and happy to get pregnant with our baby. Long shot? Absolutely. But this is the thing about infertility: Long shots are all we have. Watching Rudi grow and learn and develop has been the greatest joy of our lives these past 9 months. There are no words to describe just how fun it is when he tries something new or smiles and leans in for a hug. I don't really know how to write about this, but it has become more clear to me that I have to. Keeping it inside is causing all kinds of angst in my soul that has come to a bit of a head this holiday; a time when emotions tend to run high and coping skills are maxed out anyway.
